Tihany is a village in the Balaton highlands, in the county of Veszprém, in the district of Balatonfüred. In the center of the village stands the Benedictine Abbey of Tihany, founded in 1055 by the Hungarian king András I, who was buried in the abbey's crypt. The church itself was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1754. The abbey, which still operates today, is a popular tourist attraction due to its historical and artistic significance.
